Glotowo's Hidden Miracle: The Radiant Host
The Invasion and Hidden Treasure
In 1290, amidst the turmoil of a Lithuanian invasion, a priest from the village of Glotowo hastily buried a silver ciborium plated in gold, containing a consecrated Host. The village and its church were destroyed by the invading troops, and none of the survivors were aware of the hidden Host. Years later, a miraculous discovery occurred that would reignite faith and wonder in the community.
The Farmer's Discovery
One spring day, while plowing the field, a farmer noticed his oxen behaving strangely. As the sun was setting and casting long shadows, the oxen suddenly stopped and bowed to the ground. Confused, the farmer urged them to continue, but the plow got stuck. The oxen, straining to move forward, overturned a large clod of earth.
To the farmer’s astonishment, an intense light emanated from the ground, as bright as the noonday sun, illuminating the kneeling oxen. Digging into the soil, he uncovered a small ciborium covered in dirt, with a perfectly preserved Host as white as snow inside.
The Miracle Spreads
News of this miraculous event quickly spread, drawing people from the surrounding areas to witness the wonder. Local authorities organized a solemn procession to transport the Host to the church in Dobre Miasto. However, according to ancient chronicles, the Host inexplicably disappeared and reappeared at the original discovery site. This phenomenon was interpreted as a divine sign, prompting the construction of a small church dedicated to Corpus Christi at that location.
The Legacy of Glotowo
Over the centuries, Glotowo’s renown grew. In the eighteenth century, the medieval church was expanded and consecrated by Bishop Krzysztof Potocki on July 24, 1726. Today, the shrine at Glotowo continues to attract numerous pilgrims annually, who come to venerate the relic of the Host, miraculously intact since 1290. This enduring testament of faith serves as a beacon of divine presence and a reminder of the miraculous events that transpired in Glotowo.
