The convent erupted in panic. Terrified by the invaders’ approach, the sisters turned to their Abbess. Though weakened by illness, Clare remained calm and resolute. Summoning her courage, she devised a plan to shield her spiritual daughters.

The Eucharistic Miracle

Clare asked to be carried to the chapel, where she retrieved a silver and ivory case containing the Blessed Sacrament. With the Sacred Host in her hands, she approached the cloister gate, where the Saracens had begun to breach the monastery walls. Prostrating herself before the Lord, she prayed fervently:
